What is Judo?
(And Why Most People’s Worries Fade Once They Step on the Mat)

Judo is an Olympic sport and martial art focused on throwing, pinning, and submitting an opponent, while also learning how to protect yourself. Beyond the techniques, it’s one of the most effective ways to develop real strength, coordination, focus, discipline, respect, and self-confidence.

People who train in Judo often find they become stronger, more focused, and more confident, both on and off the mat.

It’s common to feel hesitant before trying Judo. Many worry they’re not fit enough, too old, too young, or that they’ll feel out of place with no experience. These concerns are completely normal.

Why Parents Choose Judo for Their Children

Many parents want more for their children than just physical activity. They want something that builds character, confidence, focus, and resilience — while still being fun and safe. Judo offers all of that. It’s more than a sport. It’s a proven way to help children develop important life skills in a supportive and structured environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Judo safe for kids?

Yes. Judo is one of the safest martial arts for children when taught properly. All our classes are supervised by certified instructors who emphasize technique, control, and respect. Injuries are rare because we focus on proper form and gradual progression rather than competition at the beginner level.

No. Our introductory programs are designed for people of all fitness levels. We start at your current level and focus on building coordination, strength, and confidence gradually. Many of our students begin with little to no athletic background.

That’s completely fine — and very common. Most of our new students start with zero experience. Our beginner programs are specifically built to teach the fundamentals in a supportive, low-pressure environment. You’ll learn at your own pace alongside others who are also new to Judo.

You can book yourself a free trial with no long-term commitment. We also offer clear introductory packages for under $300 (including a Free uniform). Full pricing and schedule details are listed in the sections above.

No. A rental uniform is included with the free trial class and the personal sessions. You only need to purchase your own uniform later if you decide to continue training with us. All our introductory packages include a FREE new uniform.

We welcome children from age 6 and up. Our Judo Duo program (ages 6–7) is a parent-and-child class. Older children can join age-appropriate group classes. We also offer private lessons for children as young as 7.

Prior to Age 6, we recommend putting your child into a variety of sports that help with fundamental body movements (e.g. gymnastics)

No contracts required. You can try a class, purchase an introductory package, or book private lessons. We believe in earning your trust through results, not locking you into long-term commitments.

Ready to Get Started?

No long-term contracts. No pressure. Just come try a class and see if it’s the right fit for you and your family.
